This is the second time I’ve tried this wine; the first being a ‘kloof’ taste-off (details here). Even though in a tasting environment you get a certain measure of a wine, I do always wonder what it would really taste like once I get it home & sit down with it and drink it at leisure with my evening meal. And that’s exactly what I did this evening…
My first reaction was ‘smokey’ but I quickly realised this is more ‘smoked’ – like smoked bacon, this is definitely smoked wine! Smooth, medium-bodied dark cherry fruit …all smoked!
A lovely, interesting style of wine and very different it turns out to the Boekenhoutskloof Syrah I originally tasted it alongside.
