For this week’s Friday night, post swimming session tasting, I thought it was time to open one of my two remaining 1999 Guado Al Tasso’s.
I was a little concerned when I decanted it prior to the bike journey over to Allan’s, and a good three hours before I was going to have a chance of drinking it, that this might be too long exposure. With the weakish nose and brownish colour it seemed quite well aged, and maybe a little fragile. However after our long hard session of practising not to drown, smells of plums with prunes showed it’s in a good place right now – still fruit there but also old fruit.
Spicy, subdued fruit, integrated oak acidity and tannin. I couldn’t have opened it at a more perfect time. It went down extremely well with Allan and Bianca -and disappeared quickly! Always a sign of a lovely bottle.
